An American Fantasy

Ever wonder why so many princesses come from Disney, USA when the country doesn’t have a single palace?

I was at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville and felt for a moment this was part of Europe rather than America.

Talk about being extravagant. This was a single family home for George Vanderbilt, his wife and their only daughter. Must have felt like royalties back in the late 19th century.

My niece’s three-year-old was looking forward to visit the ‘castle’, her version of Biltmore House. She even wore a princess gown for the occasion. Purchased from the Disney stores where mum spent a fair bit on the merchandises designed in the USA and manufactured in China.

But a child need not know all that. The fairyland fantasy was what children love most and adults cling on to by sharing the happy imaginative world of princesses, palaces and handsome princes.
